Biking Up Hills

Thank you for the encouraging words and prayers in regards to our upcoming move South. I am still finding it difficult to believe the change that we are about to experience. It will be a grand adventure for our little family.

The Chariot train.
I do think that we are being called to move South for a reason. What that reason is we have yet to discover. In the meantime we are taking some time to visit the area and explore the surroundings.

See that tiny sign? It says "Almost There". It doesn't mention the gigantic hill just around the bend.
Right now we are in the heart of British Columbia's wine country. Today we made the trek from our VRBO to a nearby winery (See Ya Later Ranch). The ranch was only 5 km away but 200 meters up into the hills. Now that shouldn't be a big deal for the avid biker, but I'm not in great shape. I might have been able to make (most of ) the climb if I didn't have to lug up a 45lb four year in a Chariot. I can proudly say that I made it up, even if we did walk some of it. But, I must admit that the cheese and wine up on that hill made for a great incentive.

One proud maman! We made it to the top. Now where's the wine and cheese?
At one point I couldn't go on and I tried to unclip my feet from the peddles to take a break. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time or strength to unclip so I fell right over onto the street still stuck to my bike. That would have been embarrassing enough but then a van drove around the corner. The drivers looked at me in concern and my husband laughed as I scrambled to unclip my feet and get off the road. I was mortified that we might meet the occupants of that van at the winery, but we didn't.

A little rest before going back.
The bike ride back was much quicker but we were pretty exhausted for several hours afterwards and I'm still feeling the pangs of going up that huge hill and falling on asphalt, but the wine and cheese were worth every bit of it.

  2. Oh my goodness! Some of those hills in the OK are crazy! I thought you might have been moving more south and costal, but the centre feels more right for you guys (the little that I'm aware of you from the blog). And wines! And cheese! We were just there for vacation; miss it already. Praying that your hearts are prepped for the transition.
