March Against Monsanto in the South Okanagan

All I wanted to do was attend a local March Against Monsanto but since there was none I took a risk and started organizing one. At the prompting of some friends I started a Facebook March Against Monsanto event page a couple weeks ago. I wasn't sure how things would unfold. I am new to this area so I don't have a lot of local connections. When you combine that with having no experience in organizing a march and being busy with caring for my three little children you might wonder if I'm crazy. I think that I might be, but it has been getting more and more difficult for me to ignore the problems with Monsanto's GMOs (genetically modified organisms) and chemicals. Thankfully some wonderful people stepped forward and offered their time, energy and passion to organize a March Against Monsanto here in the South Okanagan. I could not have done it without them and I am grateful for their help.

We had a sunny weather and a great turn out of people. I think the pictures I share say more than I can write. There was great energy and I estimate we were around 200 people (but I'm not good as estimating these kinds of things). We ran out of space on our petition papers and people brought some great signs. Thank you to everyone who came! We were just one of the more than 400 events happening worldwide today, May 25 2013. What an amazing thing it was to participate in this global march. Hey Hey Ho Ho GMOs have got to GO!
