This past week we saw our wood pile dwindle to nothing. With great optimism I hoped that spring would suddenly arrive and we wouldn't have to get more wood. Reality check: winter is still here. Thankfully we did have a couple days of sunny weather to keep our house warm before our next load of wood arrived. It is our first winter in this house and we are still trying to figure out how much wood we need to heat it. So far, we've used three cords of wood, mostly pine, larch and fir.
Now that our wood pile is replenished I am enjoying the warmth of the fire once again. We sit beside the wood stove and warm our toes. When the days are cool and rainy we stay close to the fire and spend more time reading and crafting. My children set up a library on the floor while I knit a row on
Teddy sweater, read the spring edition of
Rhythm of the Home and listen to new music by

Oh how I love wood stoves. Better yet; wood stoves along with cold days, yarn, books, and babies.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds lovely.
I love the color of your sweater. Such a warm and cozy post with the photo of the fire and your little ones. I found you through the Yarn Along today. :)
ReplyDeleteDo you still supplement with a furnace? How much does it overall drop your use to? I'm so curious, I've always wanted to compare. Have you researched pellet stoves? I loved my mom's cast-iron wood stove she had in the basement when we were growing up. Alas that now she's trying to sell the stove and I haven't a house that can use it!
ReplyDeleteI love the colour of green that you've chosen for the sweater!
Beautiful pics! Love the colour you are knitting with.
ReplyDeleteHonestly - does anything beat a family cozy by a wood fire? I love the smell of a wood fire, the crackling noises, it bring so much more to a space than "just" heat. The addition of books and a blanket makes it just ideal.
ReplyDeleteI'm rather covetous :)
