The Third Day of Christmas: Wine for St. John

The third day of the twelve days of Christmas is the feast of the Saint John, the disciple of Jesus who wrote various books of the Bible, including one of the four gospels. Saint John stayed close to Jesus, even during his crucifixion, and it was to Saint John that Jesus entrusted his mother Mary. It is a custom on the third day of Christmas to drink wine in remembrance of St. John's love for Jesus. You can bless your wine which can be mulled or not. Our family offered a toast at supper saying "for the love of St. John!". It is a fun and simple tradition that even children could participate in by having their own little glass of wine or grape juice.
