Yarn Along (no.18)

The last time I was such a serious knitter was in my university days. By serious I mean completing more than one dish cloth or scarf here and there. Ginny's Yarn Along has been such a great source of inspiration and motivation. I love checking out other knitters' projects and I'm amazed to see how many yarn-alongers there are out there.

This week I've been knitting Sweetpea's Sorello shirt. Ravelry is such a fun place to get patterns. I've discovered that I really like seamless tops; it's fun to see how they turn out. I've also noticed that Ravelry has groups you can join - anybody belong to a fun Ravelry group?


This week I'm reading two books: my book club book Her Fearful Symmetry and Storey's Guide to Raising Chickens.

We just ordered 35 chicks and they'll arrive April 28th. We don't have room in our backyard to raise chickens (the rabbits have already made their claim), so the plan is to set them up for the first few weeks in our basement in a brooder and then bring them out to my parents' acreage. My parents have being dreaming of building a chicken coop for a while and it looks like those plans will finally become a reality!

    Oh, nice! I love Georgie Hallam's patterns. I actually have her "Bloom" pattern about 2/3 done for my daughter's Easter dress, presuming I wrap it up in time :) Such nice clearly written patterns, and I too am loving the "top down, seamless" stuff. Ravelry is great - the only problem I run into is "so many patterns, so little time."

    Did you ever finish Sweetpea's dress? How'd the sleeves turn out?

    That is a beautiful blue you are using to knit. How nice of you to give your parents chickens; I think they are a lot of fun.

    Your rabbitry is so cool! I have never had rabbit before and honestly I don't think my kids or I could get past their cuteness. Good luck with the chicken coop!!

    Sorry... my comment just disappeared into no man's land, I fear.
    Chickens are a wonderful adventure. My youngest can tell the difference between a store bought egg and one from our friends. The latter he will ask for two or three at a time!

    Ravelry is such an amazing resource! I belong to a few groups for local knitters and the Elizabeth zimmermann groups, but the most useful groups to me right now are the lace knitting groups, as I'm still learning so much in that area.

    Oh, that shirt is beautiful! I am addicted to Ravelry - so much great things to find there.

    35 chickens! How much fun to have them as babies and then visit them later when they get big! We just ordered our four which are due to arrive in a couple weeks (nothing like 35 but a start...)
